Essay

The task of current importance has been accomplished in this work - definition of hyperuricemia as the associated with metabolic syndrome factor, which correlates with other cardiovascular risk factors and efficacy of new approach - systemic enzymotherapy - in treatment of metabolic syndrome. We revealed wide prevalence of hyperuricemia in patients with metabolic syndrome - 59%. Hyperuricemia was associated with lower level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (10,8%), higher levels of fibrinogen (9,8%) and atherogenesis index (6,3%). In patients with metabolic syndrome and hyperuricemia we revealed reduced peak systolic velocity in cerebral and carotid arteries, increased jugular vein diameter, greater size of atherosclerotic patches in comparison with normouricemic patients. Uric acid reliably correlated with the size of atherosclerotic plugs (r=0,86, p<0,05), jugular vein diameter (r=0,53, p<0,05), peak systolic velocity in cerebral arteries (r=-0,47, p<0,05). In patients managed with systemic enzymotherapy we revealed more effective reduction of uric acid level.
