Essay

The object is the moral value of work as social and cultural phenomenon. The aim is the philosophical and culturological analysis of transformation of conceptions of the moral value of work in the West European culture. Methods: phenomenological approach, methods of comparative and historical-cultural analysis. Theoretical results and their novelty. Peculiarities of the process of formation and transformation of conceptions of the moral value of work in different periods of development of West European culture have been revealed, as their interrelation with the matter of the concept of “work”. It is shown that consumption and especially consumerism, lead to the moral value of work decline and to understanding of work as a means of meeting the material needs. Practical significance of the work lies in the fact that these obtained conclusions can become the ground for the renovation of courses on the problems of philosophical anthropology, philosophy of cultural.
