Author defined the concepts and essence of the contract of lien, and also its legal nature and its place in the system of civil law contracts, basing on the content, principles and the legal nature of the lien. Author defined the form and order for the conclusion of the contract of lien and legal consequences of violation of this contract. The proposals of introducing some changes into the Civil code and into some other statements of civil legislation of Ukraine for the purpose of improving of normative regulation of legal relationship in respect to lien have been formulated."
