Pelagesha N. Pelagesha. Transformation of the Ukrainian national identity under conditions of globalization

The thesis investigates the Ukrainian national identity transformation under the conditionі of globalization. On the basis of main approaches to the problem of identity formation existing in social sciences it is proved that the investigation of this problem is possible on the ground of constructivists paradigm. It has been demonstrated that the national identity as the sphere of ideas, values and meanings depends on supranational identities because globalization partially deprives a nation state of its right to control its socio-cultural sphere. Supranational institutions create their own markers of identity which can either coexist with national identities markers or destroy them. For these purposes they usually use educational, cultural, informational and other practices. The goal of supranational identities construction is the reconfiguration of national identities, the changes in the system of citizens's identities, the modification of "I" and "Others" so that supranational institutes be includedin everyday life of a person.
