Kudina A. Genre originality of M.Artsibashev's works.

The object is M.Artsibashev's prose. The aim is to study the features of the genre poetics of M.Artsibashev's prose. The methods are historical-literary and comparative-typological. The genre poetics of M.Artsibashev's prose is investigated in the thesis. The analysis of his artistic heritage states that M.Artsibashev is the author of not separate works but a united text - "meta-text", based on the deep author's conviction in the priority of a man's freedom. Analysing the genres of M.Artsibashev's "small prose" we have come to the conclusion that his stories and tales can be divided into two groups according to the types of characters prevailing in them. The first group includes the works with the dominating author's position where main characters are the characters of the "sanin type": sure of themselves, strongly pronounced individualists. The other group includes the works with the recessive author's position. The characters of these works don't correlate with Artsibashev's ideal of a human personality ("anti-characters"): they are weak, spineless people, dependent too much on the public opinion.
