Tkach A. Word-forming Identity / Variability of the Ukrainian Medical Terminology

The research presents a systemic analysis of the phenomenon of a word-forming identity (WFI) and its regularities in modern Ukrainian medical terminology. The content and scope of the notions "word-forming identity", "similarity", "variability" in modern medical terminology are specified; a current state of the examined phenomenon is analyzed and possible perspectives of its development are outlined; the own experience in lexicography of formal variants formation in medical terminological dictionaries is summarized; principles and criteria to identify formal variability of a lexema are systematized and the frame of this phenomenon is outlined; characteristic peculiarities of word-forming identity modifications in medical terminological system as an integral part of the language functioning and developing are defined.
