Essay

The thesis deals with the results of long-term cohort epidemiological study of the development of nontumor thyroid diseases in the Chernobyl clean-up workers of 1986-1987. The descriptive epidemiological analysis was used to reveal some regularities of the development of disease incidence with regard to age at the moment of examination and exposure, time at risk, dose of whole body external radiation in low-dose range (0-1 Gy). The quantitative assessment of dose-dependent effects, namely, relative and attributive risks, excess relative and absolute risks was made on the results of analytical epidemiological analysis. The estimation and prediction models of nontumor thyroid pathology risks for 20-year postaccident period were justified. The development of preventive measures to improve medical control and health examination of the cohort under study was based on the results obtained.
