Essay

In 110 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) it was studied an influence of atorvastatin 10 mg/day therapy on carotid atherosclerosis markers such as intima-media thickness (IMT) and atherosclerotic plaques (AP) during 24 months. It was also studied bioptates of carotid and coronary arteries (CA and CorA correspondingly) received during autopsy of 25 patients died of CAD. The studies confirmed predictive role of carotid IMT and АP for atherosclerosis of CorA in patients with CAD and dependence between changes of carotid IMT and AP and adherence level of patients with CAD to atorvastatin 10 mg/day treatment. Under condition of high adherence level of CAD patients with moderate hypercholesterolemia to treatment by atorvastatin 10 mg/day in combination with basic antianginal therapy during 24 months occurs decrease of carotid IMT and growth deceleration of carotid AP.
