Essay

In the thesis for the first time in the Ukrainian political science the process of transit to democracy in the Czech Republic is complexly analyzed. The conclusion is made that transition from the post-totalitarian to the democratic regime in the Czech Republic took place according the classic scheme of the democratic transit that includes three consequent phases - the liberalization of the political regime, the renewal of the political and institutional model of the public power and the strengthening of the democratic norms and procedures. The successful transition to the democracy in the Czech Republic was caused not only by the political and cultural factors but also by the efficient institutional engineering of the Czech reformers. The thesis is proved that the process of the democracy consolidation in the Czech Republic is not finished, as the phase of the civil society consolidation is still on the final stage of the development.
