This dissertation is dedicated to improving treatment outcome in multiple-trauma patients. With this purpose the clinical course of 275 multiple-trauma patients was analyzed. On the basis of clinical, clinical-physiological, functional and metabolic parameters of the major life-supporting systems that truly influence the incidence of purulent-septic complications (PSC), an algorithm for diagnosing PSC in the multiple-trauma (MT) patients was developed and introduced into clinical practice. This algorithm allows an objective estimation of the traumatic disease course, with allocation of low, medium and high risk complication groups, on the basis of which the main strategic and medical measures that improved treatment outcome were defined. After using the treatment methods based on our proposed algorithm for diagnosing PSC, it was possible to achieve a reduction in the number of PSC in groups of MT patients according to the risk of developing PSC. In the low-risk group, PSC was reduced by 14.3 %, medium-risk group by 16.4%, and high-risk group by 12.5 %. There was no mortality in the low-risk group. Mortality in the medium-risk group was decreased by 25,9 % and in the high-risk group by 4.7 %.
