Object - activity of pupils of the fifth - sixth form of school providing general education. Goal of research is in development and theoretical basis of method of forming and development of a language competence of pupils of the fifth - sixth form of school in the process of studying wordbuilding and orthography. Science novelty of research: for the first time psychological-pedagogical and methodological ideas of forming and development of a language competence were given (anthropological principle, principles of developing studying, taking into account psychological peculiarities of subjects of teaching, development of the pedagogical process. Subject and degree of implementation - methodical system of forming and development of a language competence with the support of common (intellectual-creative, creative) and special (language) abilities of pupils in the process of studying wordbuilding and orthography. Practical significance of research is in development of kinds of exercises - 1) for learning real language knowledge and speech experience; 2) for correction and enriching the rules, worked out by a pupil in the process of acquiring his own language speaking experience, on achieving adequacy in communication; 3) for development the sense of language, providing recognizing qualitative peculiarities of speech and situations, making more deep the perception of the word, which is sensible to use in the process of forming and development of a language competence, criteria (quality, stretchiness and direction of intellectual-creative, creative and language abilities) and levels of forming of a language competence of pupils of the fifth - sixth form. Efficiency of implementation - high. Sphere - pedagogical.
