Volyanyuk I. Formation and development of oikonymy in North Ternopilshchyna of the 12th - 20th c.

The thesis deals with formation and development of oikonymy in North Ternopilshchyna during the 12th - 20th c. The state of investigating the oikonymy of Ukraine and the existing classification schemes of the settlings' names have been analysed. The analysis of word-forming se-mantics of 580 oikonyms of the region has been carried out, in particular, each oikonym model and functions of the word-forming formants have been analysed in details. The productivity in the process of word-forming the settlings' names of different lexico-semantic groups has been deter-mined. The historically-etymological dictionary of North Terno-pilshchyna oikonyms has been compiled. It provides with detailed infor-mation about localization, pasportization, origin and structure of all the settlings' names of the region under investigation (those which exist nowadays as well as those which were joined with other settlings or eliminated ).
