Essay

This dissertation paper presents the results of the research performed into the nutritive qualities and the biological values of mustard cake and by-products - dry corn fodder (DCF) and corn phosphatide concentrate (CPhC) - from corn grain processing. The author has developed a number of rations supplemented with unconventional protein components for pig feeding. The research discloses the effects of the feed additives on the reproductive qualities in the test sows as well as on the growth rates of the young pigs. The author has determined the palatability ratios for the basic nutritive substances in the rations and the peculiarities of energy and protein conversion in the organisms of the experimental animals. Specific features of the morphological and biochemical indices in blood and those of the histological structure of the liver have been also investigated. The principal indices in pigs at slaughtering were established, and plausible changes in the morphological composition of carcasses and meat quality were specified. On the basis of the obtained data and the results of estimation of the economic efficiency of the use of by-products from mustard seed processing and wastes from the starch-and-treacle production, the optimal ratios for both separate and complex introduction of these additives into the feed mixtures for the feeding of sows and young growing pigs were determined.
