Essay

In the dissertation M. Khvylyovy's art prose is analysed in the aspect of searching for "a new sacrality" in the 20s of the XXth century. For the first time in the Ukrainian study of literature the writer's works in prose are examined as a realm of the toposes of sacred. In this work the author defines the essence of sacred, the main aspects of perception of this phenomenon in the humanities of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXIst centuries; gives the links of sacred with the literature; characterizes the main features of sacred as the toposes of the writer's works and also displays the specificity of the writer's reception of his time from the aspect of a sacred topology. The complex of common expressive points and the peculiarities of penetration into the sacred realm in M. Khvylyovy's prosaic works are examined in the context of the all-European and Ukrainian literary heritage of the period of modernism. In the research the writer's building of a topical system, which revealed the models of sacred he had worked out, is presented as an integration of abstract bookish formulae and archetypes, that showed the deep sense of reality of the 1920s.
