Essay

Certain criteria are proposed for predicting clinical course and plan-ning therapeutic measures for the period of rehabilitation of patients suf-fered recurrent ischemic strokes. The criteria take into account clinical and functional indices, properties of plasmatic and cellular components of lipid metabolism and oxidant-antioxidant system revealed with the help of clinical examination, CT, MRT, EEG, USDG, analyses of plasma lipids and lipid-containing leucocytes, spontaneous and induced biochemilumi-nescence of blood plasma. For the first time we introduce here the "Scale for Estimation of Severity of Condition of Patients Suffered Acute Disor-der of Cerebral Blood Circulation". We prove that the patients suffered recurrent ischemic strokes in carotid and vertebral vascular regions have severe disorders of lipid metabolism and oxidant-antioxidant system, indi-cating decompesation of regulatory mechanisms involving either stem or hemispheric structures. We also propose a mathematical model that al-lowed selection of prognostically significant clinical, paraclinical and dismetabolic markers indicating development of recurrent ischemic strokes. We show that atorvastatin is effective in complex treatment of patients suffered recurrent ischemic strokes. Keywords: recurrent ischemic stroke, lipids, lipid-containing leuco-cytes, oxidant-antioxidant system, atorvastatin.
