Vygivsky V. Structural and semantic, stylistic and pragmatic peculiarities of military homophrases (on the material of English military phraseology)

The object is homophrasal oppositions as a manifestation of homonymity of phrases. The aim of the research is the complex investigation of homophrases in the English-speaking military discourse. Methods: analysis of semantic and functional oppositions; contextual, pragmatic and stylistic analysis. Scientific novelty: the phenomenon of homophrasal oppositions as a manifestation of homonymity of linguistic units is defined; the ways of phraseologization of free word combinations as a source of homophrasal oppositions are analyzed; the regularities of forming homophrases are set as well as their structural and semantic types are systematized; the peculiarities of functioning homophrases in the military discourse are set; the principles of lexicographical description of military homophrases are elaborated. Theoretical value: the research results are the contribution to the theory of phraseology, semantics, terminology, discourse and lexicography. Practical value: the research materials can be used in the courses of modern English lexicology (sections of "Semasiology", "Terminology", "Phraseology", "Lexicography"), stylistics of the English language (sections of "Functional stylistics", "Lexical stylistic means" ), in the special courses on linguopragmatics, sociolinguistics, the study of discourse as well as in compiling "English -Ukrainian dictionary of military homophrases".
