The dissertation is devoted to the researching of the problem of forming the methodological competence of future music teachers in the process of instrumental preparation. The methodological competence of a music teacher is defined as the system of knowledge, skills and practical experience, which is stipulated by the peculiarities of his individual psychological characteristics and is directed on the implementation of musical-pedagogical activity with synchronous ability to self-implementation and constant self-perfection.This research points out the structural components of the methodological competence of future music teachers that is: cognitive-informational, operational, operational-regulative, valuable-orientational and creatively active.Pedagogical conditions of forming the methodological competence of future music teachers are scientifically grounded and experimentally checked: the development of motivation and students' qualities in the process of education; the organization of teaching on the basic of selected theoretic-methodological material; the activization of performing activity of students which stimulates their cognitive interest to musical art and supplies the productivity of pedagogical thinking; the orientation of students on self-evaluation of the achieved level of methodological competence.
