Essay

The main goal of the thesis is the study of the physical properties of the double-sided silicon strip detectors and development on their basis modules for the strip layer of the inner tracking system of the ALICE detector at Large Hadron Collider at CERN (Geneva, Switzerland). Using the pion (7 GeV/c) beam test results the basic performance of four prototypes of double-sided silicon strip modules was studied. An improved procedure of signal processing and a fast method for the determination of the spatial resolution of the sensors in the telescope are described. The influence of some peculiarities of the sensor construction on the signal to noise ratio, efficiency and spatial resolution is studied. Physical and technical bases for the module assembly by using tape automated bonding (TAB) technique for the connection of the front-end electronic via thin aluminum-polyimide cables were developed. Automated procedure based on an optical scanning and ad hoc algorithms for image analysis for dimensional and quality inspection of microcables are developed. Its implementation provided significant increase in the outcome of good modules.
