Zaitseva V. Metonymy as a Method of the Secondary Nomination in the Language of Mass media.

The objects are metonymical transferrings in the Ukrainian newspapers texts. The aim is to research the semantic nature and typology of metonymical transferrings which on materials of contemporary Ukrainian newspapers (from 1999 till 2009). The methods are contextual analysis; modeling; constructions of chainless; component and quantitative analysis. Reseach works of scientists dealing with metonymy have also been analysed as they are the theoretical foundation of metonymical transferrings analysis in the language practice of a newspaper, types of metonymical transferrings in the language of modern mass media have been researched, typical models of metonymical transferrings in investigated sources have been found out, synecdoche status in the system of the secondary nomination has been defined, text formation function of metonymical transferrings in newspaper language has been proved, the peculiarities of using of metonymical transferrings in newspaper headlines and newspaper periphrases have been analysed, the structure of metonymical transferrings with proper and common names has been researched. The investigation shows that local transferring is the most effective one. This concept is proved by quantitative analysis. Application sphere is the training courses.
