Essay

The dissertation deals with Chekhov's traditions in A.Vampilov's dramatic art. They are manifested on different levels of the writer's art system. That is thematics, problematics, plot, composition, chronotop, character system, motive organization, symbolism, genre and definite poetic devices. Further on such functions of Chekhov's traditions as constructive, dynamic, imagogic and genreforming are observed in the works of the writer. Two plans are singled out on the level of thematics in A.Vampilov's works as well as in A.Chekhov's plays: social mode of life (depiction of concrete social types, relationships and social system) plus philosophy-psycological (the exposure of the inner sense of a personality and philosophic problems of society). A.Vampilov developed traditional Chekhov's motives: the ruin of moral values, spiritual death of a personality and so on. Moreover standardized interlinks between A.Chekhov's and A.Vampilov's characters are shown in the work. Much attention is paid to A.Chekhov's symbols in the dissertation. They acquire new connotations in his plays. Most of them are ambivalent, leitmotive and detective. Standard parallels between A.Chekhov's and A.Vampilov's artistic system in the field of the ussage of poetic means has been investigated. The peculiarities of A.Vampilov's artistic method, his creative approach to classics and his innovation are fully analysed and presented in the work.
