The object is the novels by H. Broch. The objective is to ascertain the aesthetic and poetical peculiarities of H. Broch's novels. The methods used are those of historical poetics, structuralistic, semiotic and hermeneutic methodology and techniques. The research presented is the first attempt in the Ukrainian literary criticism that focuses on the complex analysis of the XX century Austrian writer Hermann Broch's novels in the course of the West European modernistic novels' poetics process (A. Gide, M. Proust, J. Joyce, R. Musil). Original concept of the polyhistorical novel is under consideration within the interpretation of H. Broch's trilogy The Sleepwalkers and the novel The Guiltless. Ambivalence is determined as the major literary strategy in the above-mentioned literary works. The analysis of the novel The Bewitchment deals with the aspects of the mythology modernization, i. e. the politicization of myth, the insertion of existentialistic concepts, and the introduction of lyric narration strategies. It is the historical novel modernization that is singled out as H. Broch's most remarkable innovation that involves the synthesis of the literary modernism mainstreams, the combination of the interior monologue with the stream of history (The Death of Virgil). Application sphere is the educational courses.
