Essay

The study is based on integrated clinical examination and endoscopic treatment of 215 patients with benign distal common bile duct obstruction. The causes of failed typical sphincterotomies have been studied. Evaluation of efficiency of different sphincterotomy methods and results of atypical sphincterotomies have been estimated. Indications for atypical sphincterotomy in patients with benign distal common bile duct obstruction have been developed. Efficient diagnostic and treatment approach has been proposed, new methods and tools for atypical sphincterotomies have been introduced. This diagnostic and treatment tactics gave an opportunity to increase the rate of selective bile duct cannulation, to reduce the duration of endoscopic operation and radiation exposure, and to decrease postoperative complication rate.
