Essay

Dissertation examines the capacity of mass political consciousness in modern Ukraine for setting population on active political participation. The work determines those functions of mass political consciousness that stimulate, through their effect, political activity of people and its motivation. Dissertation contains the analysis both of dependency between levels of social and political activity of Ukrainians and also of the social sphere's influence on the character of political behavior. Political consciousness of the modern Ukrainian population is characterized by the substance of its needs, interests, moral and ideological orientations. The most widespread political and ideological preferences of Ukrainian population are ascertained. Dissertation also deals with reasons and factors of non-conformity between protest attitudes and prevailing people's passive political behavior including during the well-known political campaigns. The study considers the evolutional changes in ambivalent proportions between locuses of internality and externality in mass consciousness, some strengthening of civic values within it in comparison to material values that still are of dominant factors in political choice. Potential ability of mass political consciousness in Ukraine to increase its activity is under analysis.
