Essay

The dissertation deals with a complex description of the morphological system of an individual Ukrainian dialect based on the dialectal texts. The author gives reasons for the necessity to apply a systematic principle in grammar studies and to focus on the functional and communicative aspects in analysing their grammatical peculiarities.The investigation gives new evidence about the grammatical system of the Ukrainian steppe dialects spread in the area between the Danube and the Dniester rivers, proving that the grammatical system of the dialect spoken in the v. Shevchenkove, Kiliya district, Odessa region is determined by the historical development of the Ukrainian language rather than the influence of neighboring dialects.
