Maksimenko K. Experiencing Negative Psychic States by Personality and Copying with them under Chronic Somatic Diseases.

The dissertation is dedicated to the theoretical and experimental research of psychic states in patients with chronic somatic diseases. A total number of subjects was 162, among them 102 females and 56 males, aged from 19 to 59. Having analyzed different types of personality reactions to the chronic somatic diseases and socio-cultural samples of copying with negative psychic states, a special Model and a Program of psychotherapy had been offered to the patients mentioned. The essence of the Model consists in finding out the adequate socio-cultural prototype of esthetical experiences (on material of Russian and Ukrainian Poetry) and applying it to the semantic space of a patient as a coping means for overcoming negative psychic states. Phenomenology of affective and notional filling of a patient's "Lebenswelt" had been described. Besides, some categorical mismatches in terminology of modern medical psychology had been eliminated. Specific recommendations for medical psychologists and therapists working both in hospitals and in out-patient practice had been worked out.
