Essay

Architecture of lost Ukrainian churches of Lviv of the XIII-th - XVIII-th centuries has been researched in the present thesis according to the written, cartographic and iconographic materials. Complex methodology of lost churches architecture studies have been developed and algorithms of this methodology application were described. Complete list of lost churches of Lviv, the 24 objects, has been determined, original locations of 9 of them have been defined, and graphical reconstructions of 6 of them have been performed. Near-church territories of lost objects in their historical development have been researched; their basic components and buildings located on those territories have been determined. Planning and volumetric-spatial types of lost churches have been established as well as fundamental principles of their architecture, based on comparative and typological analysis of existing and identified archaeologically sacred monuments of the city and region. Recommendations with regard to regulation and marking of lost churches of Lviv territories have been made.
