Essay

This dissertation presents a sociocultural approach to the analysis of prosodic interference manifestation in oral English discourse. The thesis examines fundamental theoretical approaches to the study of cross-linguistic interference. A generalized model of sociocultural factors and degrees of prosodic interference in bilinguals' non-native discourse has been built. Classification of principal features of prosodic interference in Ukrainians' oral English discourse has been worked out. The research determines typical violations of prosodic arrangement and codifies prosodic markers of Ukrainian bilinguals' English speech with low, mid and high manifestation degrees of interference via comparative analysis with native speaker's English speech standard.
