This dissertation presents a comprehensive study of political programme statement as a type of a text. The research suggests linguistic, stylistic and cultural analysis for revealing the typological structural and functional characteristics of political programme statement, eventually presenting the model of analysis for pragmatic texts. The analysis rests on the supposition that text-forming categories of political programme statement are established within the framework of the extra-textual environment. Identification of typological features of American and British political programme statement proved the text under analysis to be the information-complete specifically-structured linguistic and cognitive phenomenon. Semantics and principles of formation of the given type of a text under analysis meet linguistic and cultural text-typological expectations of target audience. Variations in arrangement of informative sets as well as the distribution of culture bearing elements in structural and semantic aspect reflect functional, linguistic and cultural specifics of political programme statement.The dissertation elaborates methodological ground for linguistic, stylistic and cultural analysis of pragmatic texts. The research is based on the supposition that pragmatic effect of a certain text depends on the distribution and frequency of functioning of culture-bearing elements in a text. Political programme statement as a linguistic and cognitive phenomenon is a specific pragmatic type of a text within political discourse. Power as a desirable result of election presupposes the domination of a text's pragmatic function grounded on defamation of political opponent. Text-typological features of political programme statement reveal specifics of selection and distribution of the culture bearing elements from structural and semantic perspective. Thus, political programme statement is a pragmatic text of political discourse in which key discourse forming concept POWER is realized by specifically pertinent to this type of a text elements, foregrounded on extra-textual environment as well as in the text itself.
