The thesis is focused on the junior university students' coping behavior in failure situations at the initial professionalization stage. "Coping" phenomenon is reviewed as a part of modern psychological categories. The idea that successful formation of the young professional assumes the presence of constructive coping skills is revealed. The concept of coping behavior based on integrated situation-personal (COPE) approach is expanded and concretized. The basic theoretical and experimental approaches to different coping solutions are analyzed. The thesis claims that the choice and use of coping strategies vary depending on the student's perception of failure situations and imagination, system of mutual relations with social environment and mental properties. The valuable formation of the coping-capable person does not occur spontaneously and includes adaptability and real actions that can change actual situation, and simultaneously, person's actions in it. An effective way of developing undergraduates' functional coping strategies is to provide special training programme.
