This thesis focuses on the contrastive study of secondary nominations for parts of the human body, which serve as a means of expressing the comic in Ukrainian and German slang, with the view of elucidating cognitive mechanisms of their formation. The role of secondary nominations in producing comic effect in slang is determined. Proceeding from defining the general "Parts of Human Body" frame, cross-frame models of slang somatic nominations are built up, and the typology of their semantic transformations is outlined. The thesis clarifies cognitive mechanisms of metaphoric and metonymic semantic transpositions in producing the comic, describes motivation spheres of slang somatic nominations and determines their frequency in Ukrainian and German slang. Nationally-bound influence that archetypes of the collective unconscious exercise on the formation of secondary nominations for the human body parts in Ukrainian and German slang, distinct for their comic potential, is analyzed.
