Essay

The Thesis is dedicated to the comprehensive study of the cerebral hemodynamics, the bioelectric brain activity and their relationships. Also it concerns the lipid profile of elderly patients undergoing atherothrombotic brain infarction in carotid and of the control group. The patients with cerebral infarction localized in the left hemisphere have more apparent severity of atherosclerosis, reduction of cerebral blood flow and changes of bioelectric brain activity in comparison with the control group, but also with patients of cerebral infarction in the right hemisphere. Comprehensive study of cerebral hemodynamics, brain bioelectrical activity and lipid profile of patients with cerebral infarction in carotid established hemispheric differences in effects by simvastatin and Mexidol. There have been revealed distinct hemispheric particularities of effect by simvastatin on the CNS functional state: in the case of cerebral infarction in right hemisphere this medication effects rather on cerebral hemodynamics, when in the case of left hemisphere localization it effects on bioelectric brain activity. Unlike treatment with simvastatin, the course of treatment with Mexidol leads to a more apparent amelioration of cerebral hemodynamics and of bioenergetics in the case of right hemisphere localization.
