Essay

The thesis identifies stages of evolution of the Ukrainian Roztochchya landscapes by application of the methodologies of physical geography and palaeogeography. In the conditions of the subtropical climate, thermophilic mesophilic forests coexisted here with with the evergreen relics of the Paleogene, while animals were presented by the hyperion herbivorous fauna. At the time of maximal glaciation, valleys of Roztochchya were dominated by swamps, damp and wet meadows, and rare islands of shrubs and trees; drier interfluves were covered by the tundra tree-line vegetation of parkland forest islands, consisting of cold-resistant species.
