Essay

The dissertation deals with the landscape study of the subalpine and alpine highmountain landscape tier of the Chornohora, which is the highest landscape of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The research is based on theoretical and methodological foundations of landscape studies of mountain areas developed by G. P. Miller (1974), which are based on the principles of genetic landscape science. It is based on the materials of our own large-scale field survey and analysis of literature, archive materials, thematic maps, space imagery and the use of modern GIS-technologies. The content of the concept of landscape tier in mountainous countries is analyzed and outlined the criteria for delineation of high-mountain landscape tier in the Ukrainian Carpathians, including in the Chornohora, which include: altitude; unity of geological structure of the territory; the genesis of the relief, the nature of the exogenous dismemberment, the slope inclination; features of vegetation; features of the landscape pattern of the territory. Based on them, the territory of the high-mountain landscape tier is delineated and it is determined that it is represented by two sections («Hoverla – Shuryn» and «Sheshul – Petros») with a total area of 80,5 km2.
