The object is word forming families of words with the top somatic component. The aim is formation of word forming families of words with the top somatic component, description of their formal-semantic structure, exposure the features of originative ability in the processes of word-formation of modern Ukrainian. The methods are a descriptive, component analysis, quantitative calculations. The thesis deals wits the structural and semantic study of word forming families of words the peak components of which are the following somatisms: head, hand and foot in the Ukrainian language. The derivatives are systematized according to their degree of derivation, the efficiency levels of the root-somatisms are defined, and the structural and semantic relations in word forming families of words are characterized at the chain and paradigm levels. It has been determined which lexical and semantic variants of somatism peaks are often actualized in derivative units, the most common types of word forming categories are defined as well as the most productive ways of word formation, the sphere of motivational features of generating words is stated. The morphonological transformations of forming bases are characterized; the causes of structural and semantic heterogeneity of word forming families of words with different peaks are detected. Application sphere are compiling of the thesauruses and training courses.
