Haponova T. Actual Division of Compound sentence in Ukrainian

The study of the period as a statement has been first carried out in the thesis. Specific structural-semantic and pragmatic signs of the period has been studied, including predicativity, modality, iteration (syntactic, morphemic, lexical-semantic). Structural signs of mono-predicative and poly-predicative periods have been defined. Different means to express modal planes of the period (objective and subjective) have been studied: traditional (forms of the predicate, transposition of the verb tense forms / intonation, modal particles, interjections, parenthesis and cut-in components) and specific (pressurizing, amplifying or protasis members rating, enumerative intonation, rising / falling tone of voice, pause at the intersection of two parts). It has been found out that the subjective modality can be concealed, implicatively expressed, and can be read in the sub-text. It has been underlined that iteration of structurally similar elements of protasis is a necessary criterion of the period build-up.
