Essay

The thesis focuses on the contrastive analysis of linguocultural peculiarities of Russian and Armenian set comparative units as a specific peripheral group within a language phraseological fund. The status of language comparison as one of the forms of cognition playing an important role in reflecting the national-cultural imagery perception of extralingual reality has been highlighted. It has been shown that the universal four-component pattern of comparison taken as its basic structural type can vary in the languages of comparison depending on their structural distinctions, the syntactic means of comparison. On the basis of semantic-ideographic classification of the units under study the analysis of the national-cultural specificity of semantic representation of different types of comparison has been carried out. The qualitative and quantitative distinctive features of the Russian and Armenian set comparatives (the overwhelming majority of which are of anthropomorphic semantics) have been analyzed. The psycholingustic associative experiment has revealed certain nationally-marked value divergences in the formation of a wide range of occasional comparative units by the representatives of Russian and Armenian linguocultures.
