Skomarovska S. Verbalization of Optative Modality in the Ukrainian Language.

The thesis is dedicated to holistic study of explication methods of optative modality in the Ukrainian language. Supported is the status of optative modality as an independent type of unreal modality, it is also distinguished from stimulation modality. Defined is the selection of verbalization methods of optative modality on different levels in the Ukrainian language. Found out are the reasons for its usage in simple mononuclear infinitive and nominative as well as in binuclear sentences. Stated are the peculiarities of using particles as a sign of optative modality in elliptical constructions. Characterized are the methods of optativity, used as basic predicate components in the main part of subordinate explanatory clause. Proven is the important role of particles as morphological and syntactical methods for explication of optativity, Presented is a comprehensive selection of functional analogues of the particle би(б), systematized are lexical and grammar methods, stated are their differences in realization of optative meaning.
