The dissertation contains theoretical and applied research on psychological features of the process of professional identity becoming in teachers of the basic school. The analysis of Ukrainian and foreign studies on the issue of identity and identification is presented in the paper. Elucidated is the essence of the notion of the teacher's professional identity. The structural constituents of this identity are described, such as the cognitive, emotional and value, and behavioral components. On this basis, the peculiarities of the teacher's professional identity were elicited. The author shows that the content of the teacher's professional identity is determined depending on how the teacher positions himself/herself in the professional environment. The evidence was found that for teachers with positive mode of positioning the professional identity forming was less dependent on the length of professional experience than for teachers with negative positioning. On the basis of the developed model, the author elaborated, tested, and proved the efficiency of the means for social-psychological maintenance of the process of teacher's professional identity forming. The sequence of development of the components in the process of the teacher's professional identity becoming was found out: emotional and value component - actualization of experiences and their comprehension, harmonization of emotional states; cognitive component - building the system of knowledge about one's own self, understanding of its importance for the process of professional activity; behavioral component - designing of adequate behavioral strategies, personal and professional orientation.
