Essay

Dissertation addresses the issues of the genesis and historical development of sacred complexes of historical Volyn’. It shows, on the basis of the historical and architectural analysis, that the sacred complexes of historical Volyn’ were constructed in accordance with the canons of temple architecture and, at the same time, they have their characteristic features related to national traditions and regional peculiarities that appeared in the process of the formation of Christianity as a religion related to the national development specifically in the territory under the investigation. It suggests the concept of the chronological evolution of the structure of sacred complexes during ХІ-ХІХ centuries in the correlation with the change of denominational belonging and differentiates of the formation pursuant to requirements. It proves the existence of the autochthonous tradition and genuine vector of the development of sacred complexes of Volyn’ considering the specifics of geopolitical location between East and West in the area where two different cultures meet each other.
