The thesis is dedicated to research of The Cautions in the context of Ukrainian polemic prose at the end of the sixteenth – beginning of the seventeenth centuries. The discursive line of the general problem is found out and those special features which express the authorial intention and his creative individuality are distinguished. In the process of the research the peculiarity of rhetoric of polemic prose as literary phenomenon of the time is discovered: structure and its connection with the topica of the work, independent topica and its stipulation by author’s intentions, basic rhetorical figures.
