For the first time a comprehensive pharmacognosical study of Geum L. species (G. urbanum L., G. aleppicum Jacq., G. rivale L.) is carried out. The most promising species and raw materials are revealed. It is determined qualitative composition and quantitative content of BAS. It is extracted from a grass and from rhizomes with roots of Geum L species the following 18 individual substances: 2 derivatives of benzoic acids, 5 derivatives of hydrocinnamic acids, 2 derivatives of benzo-?-pyrone, 9 flavonoids. A component quantitative content of ether oil from the G. urbanum L. raw material is determined. It is established that it contains 16 amino acids, 19 macro- and micro-elements, 4 vitamins and 10 fatty acids. The techniques for extracting of polysaccharides and polyphenols from raw materials are developed. The biological effect of derived substances is studied. A method for obtaining of special polyphenol compound sum from rhizomes with roots of G. urbanum L. ("Gravilatin") is invented. The antimicrobic, аnti-oxidant and immunomodulating actions and the acute toxicity of Gravilatin are investigated. The morphological-anatomical diagnostic characters of plant raw materials of Geum L species are determined. It became a base for the QCM project "Avens rhizome with roots". It is made resort investigation of G. urbanum L. in the territory of Kharkov region.
