Romas O. Rehabilitation of the vocal function in patients after partial laryngectomy

The thesis study is dedicated to the issue of rehabilitation of the vocal function in larynx cancer patients after partial resection (unilateral, bilateral cordectomy). The study reveals the extent of coverage of the issue under study in medical and special literature, performs complex analysis of vocal dysfunctions and mechanisms of phonation in patients after cordectomy. The scope and experimental procedure of correction and rehabilitation work regarding vocal function restoration in anatomic larynx defect patients are determined and described. Acoustic characteristics of voice quality in patients after cordectomy are determined, scientific notions as to compensatory mechanisms of vocal function restoration in anatomic larynx defect patients are improved. The study results proved efficacy of the proposed original procedure of correction and rehabilitation work regarding vocal function restoration in patients after partial laryngectomy. It is proved that early start of correction and rehabilitation work (9-10 day after surgery) and use of special phonopedic correction methods significantly shorten the rehabilitation period.
