The active development of the independent aviation industry in Iran, training of its own aviation specialists, creation of special literature in Farsi stimulated the formation of national aviation terminology. But the lack of coordination in the use of aviation terms slows down the process of natural formation of terminology system in the branch. The following types of term formation are relevant to the aviation terminology of Modern Persian: (1) terminologisation - the use of the ready-made word of the own language as a term; (2) terminological derivation - term formation based on the word-building resources of the native language; (3) terminological units; (4) loan-translation (calques) - the main mean of term formation in the Modern Persian; (5) borrowings from European languages; (6) abbreviation. Loan-translation (calques) is the dominant mean of MP aviation terminology increase at the expense of its own language resources. There are 5 types of calques: terminological units; word-building calques; semantic calques; compound terms calqued from foreign word-terms; word-terms calqued from foreign compound terms. In a quantitative sense terminological units make up the overwhelming majority from the general quantity of calques. Aviation terms borrowed by Persian from the contemporary European languages are mostly of English origin. Borrowed aviation terms are subject to grammatical and phonetic adaptation and assimilation. The important criterion of the borrowed terms assimilation is the simultaneous use of terms borrowed from different languages in the set terminological word combinations. The simultaneous co-existence of "native" and borrowed terms is also possible. English part should be included in the Aviation Dictionary of Persian irrespective of which language (Russian or Ukrainian) is the basic one during dictionary compilation.
