The thesis is devoted to investigation of genre determination in the novel "Captain's Daughter" of A.S. Pushkin. The analysis perspective of the Pushkin prose in the context of the dominating motive of family is clarified. "Captain's Daughter" is analyses as epic expression of the transition type, set the orientation in the development of the Russian classic novel of the 11 century. The epic conflict as the conflict of associations - epic personages: state and people is considered; settlement of this conflict being the formation of an associations - family of the new type.The motive of a family as a genre - forming factor is determined in the perspective settlement of the fiction conflict in Pushkin's "Captain's Daughter" as a genre of a novel - epopee.
