Krimets O. Metaphor and Metonymy as Factors of the Education and Development of the Ukrainian Technical Terminology

Research subject: Ukrainian one-words names that express specific notions in different fields of technics and refer to subjects, actions, states, processes and features. The objective: it to study metaphor and metonymy as factors of creation and development of modern Ukrainian technical terminology, defining lexical units that are the source of a appearing new terms and meaning of given terms and describing polysemy constructions. Methods of the research: analytical-describing method in order to study each terminological unit in structural and semantic aspects. In order to study the content of terms the methods of definitial analysis and component analysis were used. Quantitative analysis was used in order to establish quantitative parameters of the phenomena that were under study. Directions of metaphorical and metonymic development of terminological notions were characterized, also the lexical units that is used as the source of creation and development of technical terminology. The types of technical terms that appear on the basis of metaphor and metonymy were defined, the types of metaphor, metonymic constructions of polysemy were analyzed, the cases of metaphor and metonymy substitutions in the process of reconsideration of initial knowledge.
