Baranenkova N. Forms and functions of theatricality in the artistic system of Nicolay Gogol's prose (on the material of "Vechera na khutore bliz Dikanky")

The object is the collection "Vechera na khutore bliz Dikanky", literary-critical essays, Mykola Gogol's epistolary heritage; the subject is the forms of display of theatricality and the nature of their functioning in "Vechera na khutore bliz Dikanky"; the aim is to analyse Gogol's early creative work under the view of baroque art, and to systematize theatrical methods, that functioned in the school dramatic art, namely in the vertep plays, and are presented in "Vechera…"; the methods are complex and comparative-historical approach, the methods of literary hermeneutics, structural-semiotic, typological, analytical method; the novelty is that for the first time an attempt has been made to perform a complex analysis of the collection "Vechera na khutore bliz Dikanky" under the view of theatrical and baroque aesthetics. The theatrical methods functioning in "Vechera…" are systematized, their influence on the structure and principles of the narrative of novels in the collection are defined; the results are those that the conclusions and generalizations of the research will contribute to further studies of Mykola Gogol's creative works in the context of the literary baroque epoch, the results obtained may be used when conducting special courses and seminars, devoted to Mykola Gogol's early creative works, and in the following scientific-literary studies of the subject under research.
