Essay

In the research the genesis of establishing and developing the public regulation of medicine in Ukraine is explored. The following periods of this process are defined: 1) regulation of medical practice in the Kyivan Rus' and the Hetman Ukrainian State (10th - first half 11th century); 2) legislative framework of medical practice while Ukraine was a part of the Russian Empire, the Austrian Empire and Poland (second half 17th - 1917); 3) public healthcare legal regulation in the Soviet Ukraine (1917 - 1991); 4) legal regulation of healthcare services in Ukraine (1991 - the end of 2005).
