The thesis is devoted to the integral historical and pedagogical analysis of looks G. Semper's on the problem of maintenance of the applied art in the aspect of reformation of artistic education in the countries of Western Europe. The change in character of teaching in artistically-industrial schools of Western Europe in the context of development of materially-artistic culture are revealed; essence of concept the applied art in a historical retrospective view, his connection with a design is formulated. Perspective of theoretical looks and educational activity of Semper for development of modern Ukrainian education of design is shown.
