Essay

This thesis presents the results of both comprehensive clinical neurologic examination and patients' self-responses to Quality of Life questionnaires - with patients with ischemic stroke. We discovered that 67.2% of patients do not restore the Quality of Life to the initial level one year after the stroke onset. Worse Quality of Life results are associated with older age groups, female sex, greater severity of stroke, localization of ischemic lesion in the right hemisphere, greater functional dependence, cognitive impairments and depression. Independent determinants that define patients Quality of Life assessment within one year after stroke are functional status and depression, severity of stroke, cognitive status and age of patients.
