Orel I. Folklore Component in Modern German Phraseological System

This thesis focuses on revealing the semantics of folklore component in phraseological system of modern German. It is assumed that folklore component of the phraseological units may be expressed either by a word or a word-combination which render folklore image. It has been proved that folklore component has sense generating function in creating phraseological meaning of different structural and semantic types of phraseological units. Linguistic and extralinguistic factors are defined on the basis of onomasiological and semasiological analyses that illustrate the stages of phraseological semiosis. The process of praseological semiosis testifies the interconnection of language and culture. Phraseological units with folklore component are used in the process of communication as usual and occasional forms. Contextual analysis of newpaper and magazine texts made in possible to reveal 21 pragmatic functions of phraseological units with folklore component. Argumentative function of analysed phraseological units is viewed as one which enables the realization of communitive aim of the text.
